It’s been quite a year, and though your family and friends may be doing things a little different this holiday season, there are still many ways to keep up the holiday cheer and remind yourself of the things you’re most grateful for. Here are five ways to enjoy the holiday season.
We’re all wary by now of “pumpkin spice latte” season, but sometimes an overly sweet, holiday flavor-infused beverage is just the way to get in the holiday spirit. Whether you take a trip to the local coffee shop and peruse their specials board or look up a cheerful cocktail recipe you’ve never tried before, a rich beverage can be just the ticket to put you in the mood for the holidays.
Gone may be the days when you knew everyone on your block by name, but that doesn’t mean you can’t do something nice for the neighbor down the street who always waves when you pass by. If you’re baking Christmas cookies for the kid’s class, maybe make a few extra and take them over to a friend or neighbor you think could use some holiday kindness. That’s what the season is all about, after all.
Now more than ever, it’s important to support small, locally-owned businesses. Not only will shopping for gifts at a local boutique or family-owned grocery store help keep that business around, but you’ll often find unique gifts that can’t be found anywhere else. That’s a win-win situation!
Oftentimes around the holidays, we get stuck in the rut of doing things the way we’ve always done it. But this year, some sacrifices may be necessary, and it may mean you’re not able to partake in annual traditions. But that doesn’t have to be a bad thing! Creating new traditions like making DIY Christmas tree ornaments or picking out a new favorite movie to watch on Thanksgiving can be simple but meaningful, and you’ll treasure the memories for years to come.
